Rock Stompers Live!
Q. Is clogging the same as tap dancing?
A. The similarity is that both cloggers and tap dancers where taps on their shoes. One of the differences is that cloggers have an extra steel plate on their taps to create more sound.
Another difference is that tapping is primarily done on the balls of the feet whereas clogging utilizes the entire foot, with the heel striking on the downbeat. Upper body movements are very limited in clogging--tap dancers incorporate fluid arm movements.
Clogging is similar to Irish stepping (think Riverdance,) although the upper body is not held as rigid.
Q. What do Rock Stompers wear?
A. Most participants wear their Rock Stompers t-shirt with jeans to practice (or other comfortable clothing) with optional stomping shoes. The t-shirt and taps are free with paid registration.
Q. What are stomping shoes?
A. They are plain, white, leather tennis shoes (available locally for around $10) with stomping taps adhered to the soles. Stomping taps are similar to regular taps, but they have an extra steel plate to make more noise! Available for $13 at registration.
Q. How long to lessons run?
A. Most lessons are 45 minutes. Our regular season is September through April, with Summer Stomp beginning in June.
Q. What kind of music do you dance to?
A. We chose age-appropriate, popular music with carefully screened lyrics. We dance to classic and contemporary rock, country and pop.
